Welcome to my Substack
In this first post (of hopefully many), I will introduce myself and give you an idea of the plan. Please bear with me as I try to figure out the platform. I’m a lot less tech savvy than I appear, and I found some of the technology a bit daunting. But I’m sure we’ll get there. Thanks for patience!
1. Background
I’m a factory guy by trade. For close to 25 years now, I’ve been working in the manufacturing sector, mostly operating out of East Asia in markets like China, Vietnam, and Taiwan.
Some know me as the author of Poorly Made in China, a book that introduced China’s factory juggernaut to the world. My writing is usually a blend of economics, history and culture. If you’re someone who has an interest in manufacturing, importing, China, or international business, in general, you may find some this interesting.
2. Building Community
Over the years, I built a small following for my books, but I never really did anything to keep up with it. This was a small mistake, and this Substack may be a way to correct it. If this thing works out, we can use this space to keep the conversation going.
3. My Next Book—To Be Announced
I’m working on a new book am considering publishing it directly on this site. If it doesn’t get serialized here, well, then at least we can introduce a few new ideas, and you’ll have a heads up on when and where the book will be published.
